The Dragon Chronicle : History of the 15th Infantry from the Civil War to the Present; First edition, first printing

Marceline, MO: Walsworth Publishing Company, ca. 1968. First edition. Hardcover in blue decorated cloth. Thin quarto ( oversized). Slight wear to edges and corners off boards. Head and heel of spine bumped. Light scuffing to covers. 80 p. w/ maps, tables, and many B&w illustrations. An uncommon history of this regiment, still active as the 1st & 3rd Battalions, 15th Infantry. The regiment has seen action from the Civil war to Iraq (but not World War One), though this book covers them only thru their deployment in Germany during the Cold War era. The regiment is famous for more than its long lineage. It spent extensive time (over 20 years) on 2 two tours of China duty, including action in the Boxer rebellion. The dragon on their crest signifies this service. Also, in WWII, the regiment was part of the 3rd Infantry division in Italy and France and had 16 Medal of Honor winners, including one Lt. Audie Murphy, whose full page photograph is in the book. An interesting, though brief, survey of a famous US Army regiment. Very Good. Item #13087
