Die Berliner Bären - Division : Geschichte der 257. Infanterie - Division 1939 - 1945; First edition, first printing

Bad Nauheim: Verlag Hans Henning Podzun, 1955. First edition. Hardcover. Octavo (standard size). Slight wear to edges and corners of boards, a bit more so to dj. Name of former owner on foreword page. Slight musty smell to book. 216 p. w/ appendices, maps, and a few b&w photo illustrations. A history of the 257 infantry division, later a Volks-grenadier division, from its formation and occupation time in Poland through the French and Russian campaigns. It ended the war fighting the Americans from the border to the Füssen area of Swabia. The author was a lieutenant Colonel in the German Army in WWI, and was the author of a number of military history books. He was however banned from writing for a time under the Nazis because of his family's Jewish background. It appears some of his books were also banned by the occupation authorities as his works in the later 30s were felt to be too pro-Nazi. Gen. v. Viebahn was the commander of the Division from its formation til March 1941. Very Good in Good dust jacket. Item #13373
