London The Holland Press 1962 Facsimile of an original 1913 work. Two large quarto (oversized) volumes in red cloth, with gilt lettering to a creme colored spine. Limited to 250 copies. Larger in size than other reprints. Light wear to edges and corners of boards. Slight soiling to spine edges of textblock. Vol. 1 xvii (6) 462 p. (281 entries). Vol. 2 463-818 (214 entries) with additional notes, and an index of 62 pgs (lxii). Both volumes include numerous illustrations of title pages, incipits, interior plates, and bindings in b&w. An attractive, larger sized reprint of this important and thorough catalog. Murray (1849 - 1919) was an English art connoiseur, consultant and dealer, as well as being a respected portraitist. His friends included Rosetti, Burne-Jones, William Morris, and Ruskin. His book collection and manuscript collection, put together in just 7 years, began when he retired from art and sold most of the paintings. His collection was sold over a period of 8 years before and after his death, with a good number of the German books being sold in a 1917 auction. Others were sold privately.
