A few notes in pencil on last pastedown. 307 p. w/index. The first English translation of many of the shorter stories (Novelle) of Sacchetti, a fourteenth century Florentine diplomat, courtier, poet, and writer. 83 of the 258 (or 223, depending on the source) surviving stories are included here. His stories focus more on middle-class life and are more straightforward than those of Boccaccio. Steegmann was a prolific translator of Italian works in the first quarter or so of the 20th century.
