Paris Mallet-Bachelier 1855 First edition Thin octavo. (xv) 144 p. Good in tan leather spine, mottled red and black paper covered boards with marbeled endpapers. Light foxing on most pages. Spine is heavily rubbed, with gilt title and 7 greek key designs. Board edges have wear, with bumping to top corners. At corners where paper has worn through a reddish wooden board can be seen. A good copy of an uncommon mathematical work. Serret (1827-1898) worked in the area between mechanics and geometry, and was the brother of the better known mathematician Joseph Alfred Serret.
