Des Moines: American Lithographing and Printing Co., 1919. First edition. Fair quarto (oversized) hardcover in faded embossed red binding featuring a soldier before a grave without dust jacket. Wear and rubbing to the edges of the boards with bumping to the head and heel of the spine and the corners of the panels along with some few small tears in the binding on the head and heel of the spine. Some scuffing to the covers. Page edges are lightly browned with some minor foxing on the upper edges of the pages. Light waterstains on the upper edges of the pages also. The binding is a little loose and there are a few cracks but all the pages are still attached. 421 pages with illustrations. A tribute to the men 168th Infantry (the Old 3rd Iowa) who saw action during World War I at the St. Mihiel Salient and during the Argonne Offensive. This work features pictures, when available, of those soldiers who died with brief entries about where they were buried and the circumstances of their demise. (Item ID: 13782)
