The Compleat Marble Sleuth
Rockwell, Peter, Stanely Rosenfeld and Heather Hanley. Photographs by Stanely Rosenfeld

Sunny Isles Beach, FL Rockrose Publishing 2004 First edition Quarto (oversized). Slight wear to edges and corners of boards and dust jacket. Some 233 p. w/ many color photographs. An unusual and very interesting book examining marbel carving through the ages, looking at and illustrating in close detail Greek and Roman works ( including the columns of Trajan and Marcus Aurelius), medieval carving at Orvieto cathedral, Donatello, Pisano, Michaelangelo, Bernini, and other master sculptors. The authors also discuss (again with great photos) quarries, tools and their marks, and copying processes, including a detailed look at Nicoli's in Carrera where a great number of statues are reproduced in marble. Scarce . Very good Hardcover (Item ID: 17782)
