Venice, Italy Armenian Monastery of St. Lazarus 1874 First edition Thick Duodecimo (smaller than standard). Blue paper over cardboard, with text and decoration on front board, decoration on rear board. 2 parts in one volume. Wear to corners and edges of boards, with some wear and staining to front and rear boards. Some numbers in ink on front pastedown Stamp with name of former owner in blue ink on flyleaf. Light foxing to pages. Pt. 1 p. 1-48, pt 2 p. 49-410. Volume one of a 2 volume set, printed at the Monastery assocated with Byron's stay in 1816. An uncommon work on Armenia and its history, leaving Ecclesiastical History for Vol. II and Literature for a third volume that does not appear to have seen the press. For over 30 years Issaverdens published a number of books in English regarding the history, language, and places of Armenia and the Armenian Church. Based at the monastery, it is clear the resources there helped greatly in his research. A second editon of the three extant parts was published in 1878. Good hardcover (Item ID: 17859)
