Marginalia Scaenica
Jackson, John

Oxford Oxford University Press 1955 First edition Octavo (standard size). Slight wear to edges and corners of boards, a bit more so to dj, which is slightly faded at spine. 250 p. w/ addenda, omissions, miscellanea, indexes. A posthumus work of a modified and improved verion of two articles first published in 1941, focusing on the Greek dramatic poets, but with some examination of prose authors. Jackson, an unusual scholar, was an "explorer of remote corners of Greek literature" who died at that age of 71. He had been elected Craven Fellow at Oxford in 1903 but tok over the care of his mother's farm, here he stayed till his death. Very good Hardcover (Item ID: g16734)
