The Under - Wood

New York, NY: Phoenix Book Shop, 1966. First edition. Hardcover. Thin octavo in slipcase (standard size). Sliht wear to edges and corners of boards. A bit of fading to spine. Paper coverd slipcase has some foxing on cover sand a 3-4" split at edge on bottom. Pages unopened. One of 26 SIGNED copies on a imitation page, hors commece according to an added signed inscrption by Kindley: "One of four copies hors commerce/ The most special copy, / for Laurence Scott - / our friendship makes it so. /Jeff /May 23, 1966" Interestingly, another hand has drawn a strong diagonal line thru the inscriptioon, and after a added bracket next to Kindley's limitation signature has written : "Hopeless liar / user / abuser". So not a flattering addendum. This is the first and only book of poetry by Kindley when he was 20, with a promising comment by his mentor Marianne Moore on the slipcase. Kindly went on to write plays, movies, TV shows, children's books, and articles. Uncommon. Very good. Item #20979
